Wine & Spirits’ Success Proves Beer Space Vulnerable
This summer turned out to be a little sluggish for wine and spirits, but if you look on the bright side, we're growing better relative to other consumer packaged goods. In a collection of 120 consumer packaged goods tracked by Nielsen, the average sales growth rate for the 52 weeks to July 6 was 2.1%. Both wine (up 4.8%) and spirits (up 4.7%) are growing faster than that. "On a relative basis, I think we should all feel really good about the growth of our categories, " said Danny Brager, Nielsen's senior vp, beverage alcohol practice, during a state-of-the-industry presentation at the Wine & Spirits Daily Summit
