Wine Prices are Up, $20+ Segment Losing Speed
Overall, the wine category is up in both volumes (+1.5%) and sales (4.2%) in the 13-weeks ending September 15, per Nielsen data. Nearly all price segments in the category delivered sales growth. Wines priced $6 - $9 are the only exception, with a decrease in sales (-4%) and volume (-4.3%). The $9 - $12 sweet spot remained the big winner, up 12% in sales for the 13 weeks. It continues to take share from the $9 and under segments, primarily from the $6- $9 wines.
