Wine Growth Slows in May

Growth slowed for the total US wine industry in the period ending May 28, based on Nielsen scans in food, drug, c-store and liquor stores. Dollar sales for the 52-weeks grew 4.2%, but slowed to 3.1% in the 4-weeks. Volumes grew 3.2% for the year and 2.1% for the month. Pricing remained the same - up 6 cents a 750ml bottle. (Note that Memorial Day fell on May 30 this year and May 31 last year, so this period does not cover the holiday in its entirety).
