US Lawmakers Introduce Competing FET Reform Bills
Earlier this year, the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) partnered with DISCUS to work toward excise tax reform for all foreign and domestic spirits producers [see WSD 03-27-2015 ]. Today, the trade groups announced they have found sponsors for their bill: Congressmen Todd Young (Indiana) and John Yarmuth (Kentucky). The legislators have introduced the Excise Tax Reform Act of 2015 (HR2520), which would lower the current tax rate of $13.50 per proof gallon to $2.70 per proof gallon on the first 100,000 gallons for all distillers, as well as set a rate of $9 per proof gallon on all spirits above the 100,000 gallon threshold. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means.
