Spirits Pricing Gets a Boost
Spirits pricing was on the up and up in the 13-weeks to May 28 compared to prior months, based on Nielsen scan data in food, drug and liquor stores. This is good news and indicates that suppliers are indeed scaling back on promotions. For the past several months the spirits industry as a whole has taken prices increases ranging in the 5-cent to 6-cent range per 750ml bottle. Now in the 13-weeks to May 28, prices shot up to 11 cents a bottle. Looking just at the month of May (4-week period), prices were up even higher: 15 cents a bottle.
