Sparkling Wines Maintain Growth in the Spring

This isn't your typical season for sparkling wine, but sales continue to chug along in the mid-single digits, according to year-to-date SIRI all channel scan data ending May 13. Unlike with table wine, growth is dominated by imports, with dollar sales climbing +11.1%, compared to domestic wine sales of +4.2%. Digging deeper it's apparent that most of the growth is coming from Italy, and therefore Prosecco. It's no wonder all the majors now have at least one Prosecco on the market. Dollar sales of Prosecco rose +64.3%, while volumes gained 67%. Average prices hovered around the $12.05 mark, down -20 cents.
