Southern Fighting to Enter Missouri
In July, Southern Wine & Spirits applied for a wholesale license in the state of Missouri, but the alcohol and tobacco control division shut them down on the grounds that they are not eligible. Why is that? You guessed it, residency requirement. Missouri law stipulates that only "resident corporations" may hold a wholesaler license. In order to be considered a resident corporation, all of Southern's officers and directors must live in Missouri for three straight years.
