Premiumization and New Products Help Boost Spirits 3% in 2012
"2011 and 2012 were the strongest back-to-back years we've had in the spirits industry since 2003 and 2004," said DISCUS chief economist David Ozgo in the association's State of the Industry report this morning. In 2012 spirits growth was driven by innovation, flavors and market modernization. Volume growth for the category was up 3% to reach 202 million cases for the year. Spirits share of stomach also grew to a hair over one-third (34.3%) of all alcohol revenue, while volume share hit 32%.
