Category blending has been a trend in the industry lately, as seen with Courvoisier Rose, Hpnotiq and a number of ready-to-drink, wine-based products, for example, but Pernod Ricard is taking it to a different level with Malibu Red. Hitting shelves on March 2012, Malibu Red is a blend of coconut rum and silver tequila. Similar to flavored whiskey, Pernod hopes this will spark a new category in the industry.
