Legislative Issues Facing the Wine Biz
Since the Granholm decision was handed over in 2005, the legislative landscape for wine looks very different in the United States to say the least. And all that change can sometimes create confusion. Interesting stats: wineries can now ship to 44 states for onsite sales and 39 states for offsite sales. (An onsite sale is when a consumer visits a winery, purchases wine and has it shipped to their house for personal use). Meanwhile, retailers (and those holding a 17/20 license in California) can ship to only 14 states. That is according to a webinar hosted by compliance company ShipCompliant this afternoon, where vp of compliance, Jeff Carroll, outlined a number of new changes adopted by states this year, and issues still facing the industry.
