Labor Day Breaks New Record for Super Premiums

Beginning with Labor Day 2007, wines priced $20 and above have increased dollar sales year over year from the prior 4 week period through 2011, based on Symphony IRI food and drug store scan data. "The current 4 week [ended Sept 4, 2011] which includes Labor Day is actually the highest dollar sales point in the past 5 years," said Doug Goodwin, vp of brand development for Symphony IRI. "The current 4 week period is almost $3 million higher than the same point a year ago (compare 2010 to 2011), that is just about double the growth from 2009 to 2010," as illustrated in this graph.
