Italian Sparklers on Fire

The sparkling wine category continues to outpace table wine, with imports leading the way. Led by Italian sparkling wine (largely prosecco), the import segment grew 15.7% in sales and 22% in volume in the 4-weeks to October 2, according to SymphonyIRI food, drug and c-store scans. Average prices were down -70 cents to $12.70. Domestics, meanwhile, grew sales by 5.1% and volumes by 3.9%, with average prices up 10 cents to $8.87.
