Talk of vodka price wars earlier this week (see WSD 05-13-2013 ) got us thinking about the vodka category as a whole. It's impressive to think that as the largest spirits category, it continues to post growth. Vodka currently commands 34% share of the spirits market in control states, and still managed to grow volumes by 4.5% and dollar sales by 6%, per 12-month NABCA data. To put things into perspective, Irish whiskey remains the fastest growing overall spirits category at 18% in terms of volume, but only makes up 0.8% share of the total market.
