The Gallos are known for being fiercely protective of their name. They've taken several businesses to court over the matter including: a grocer in Seattle over a Spanish pasta called Gallo and an Italian trade association named Consorzio del Gallo Nero, and you may recall Ernest and Julio sued their brother in the '80s to prevent him from using the name for his cheese company. E & J Gallo's latest move to protect the family name they used for decades was to file a lawsuit in the Eastern District of California against Grenade Beverage LLC.
