Diageo and B-F Tussle over Tennessee Whiskey Definition
Brown-Forman and Diageo, along with some other local producers, are headed for a face off in Tennessee over the guidelines for producing Tennessee whiskey. Last year, Tennessee lawmakers, with the support of B-F, passed legislation declaring Tennessee whiskey must be made from fermented mash of at least 51% corn, aged in new oak barrels, charcoal mellowed and stored in Tennessee. But this year, Diageo is supporting legislation to change the law to allow Tennessee whiskey distillers to store whiskey in rejuvenated barrels.
