Cristal Wins Trademark Case against Cristalino
Cristal has won: the name "Cristalino" can no longer stand alone on a label, said a district court judge this week. Back in 2006 Louis Roederer filed a complaint in the US District Court of Minnesota accusing J. Garcia Carrion and US importers CIV USA of trademark infringement. The suit claimed that Carrion's sparkling wine from Spain, Cristalino, is "confusingly similar" to Cristal, which is a problem because "consumers are likely to consider Defendants' Cristalino" as a "lower priced sparkling wine" version of Cristal.
