Brown Spirits Attract Share like a Magnet
Overall spirits sales were up 5% in the 4 weeks to March 30, in conjunction with volume growth of nearly 2%, per Nielsen data. Brown spirits are still rolling like a freight train as bourbon sales increased 12.2%, Scotch grew 15.6% and Canadian whiskey grew 12%. Vodka, rum, cordials, tequila and gin all lost dollar share, taken by bourbon (+68 dollar share points) Canadian whiskey (+48), Scotch (+45) and Irish whiskey (+30).
